Laxmi Prasad, Signals win
Unbeaten Laxmi Prasad SC continued their winning streak in the GFA’s First Division League, as they registered a 2-0 win over Calangute Association SC at Poriat grounds, on Thursday.
In their first leg meeting, Laxmi had pipped Calangute by 1-0 margin at Duler grounds. With Thursday’s win Laxmi climbed to top of the league table with 30 points while Calangute stay second with 25 points.
Playing Calangute at their home grounds was not an easy task for Laxmi outfit yet they took the lead in the 15th minute through Milton Gomes, who drew the first blood with a scorching right footer from top of the penalty box.
Ten minutes for the breather and Lavino Fernandes doubled the score, as he guided the ball into the far corner of the goal off Steven Fernandes cross to make it 2-0.
At Duler grounds, Corps of Signals came from a goal down to demolish Goa Police SC by 5-1 goal margin.
In the last outing Signals had defeated Goa Police 2-1.
Both the sides had equal number of scoring chances in the first session.
In the very 5th minute on crossing over Abdul Khan was tackled by Signals defender Paul Victor inside the penalty box, prompting the keeper to point to the dreaded spot. Rajesh Salgaoncar made no mistake to score, 1-0.
Stung by the reverse, Signals exerted pressure and equalised in the 60th minute through Lalmunpuia, who getting hold to a pass from medio LH Sanga, finished with a left footer.
There was no looking back for Signals after the equaliser, as they scored four more goals at regular intervals. [NT]
