Lobo: Power cuts nothing new in Calangute!

Reacting to statements by former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes over frequent power cuts in Candolim, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has said power cuts are not new in Candolim, Calangute or Baga beach area.
“Power cuts are not new to villagers of Candolim, Calangute or Baga, which I think, even Fernandes will agree. But blaming the BJP government for the power mess will not help anyone. The only way the power woes of the Calangute coastal belt can be resolved is by having a separate power sub-Station at Calangute,” said Lobo.
“The former MLA though well aware of the power woes failed to initiate any action either for a separate power sub-station for Calangute or acquire land for the project,” claimed Lobo.
“Considering the increase of load in Candolim, Calangute and Baga, I have set in motion the plan to have a sub-power station at Calangute which should resolve the issue. The sub-power station at Candolim will take care of the load of Candolim, while Calangute could meet the needs of Calangute and Nagoa-Arpora could supply load to Baga and surrounding villages,” informed Lobo.
“Presently, Candolim sub-station meets part load of Calangute, Saligao and Nagoa-Arpora takes care of other areas,” added Lobo.
“However, I will try and get the power cuts resolved once the new sub-station is ready and underground cabling is done. The underground cabling will generate more power for consumption and no such power shedding will be required once the infrastructure is ready,” said Lobo. [H]
