Locals gear up for ‘Festival of Curtorkars’

The traditionally-rich and popular Curtorim Carnival titled 'Festival of Curtorkars' has in store a host of events, competitions and performances from February 10 to February to 12.

The Curtorim Carnival committee which consists of a handful of Curtorkars said with pride that the "unique and yet simple" distinguishing factor of this Carnival parade is that the float parade travels through its scenic village that is surrounded by hills, lush green fields, large water reservoirs and that the entire village of Cutorim participates enthusiastically throughout the festivities. Tony D'mello as King Momo will be called the King of Festivities and the parade on February 12 will leave from Maina Church ground at 3pm and end at the Curtorim market square. Commercial floats are not encouraged.

The talent search competitions are supported by the department of art and culture with financial assistance, whereas the committee generates the remaining funds from local donations and through the selling of lottery coupons.

"For example, we have a competition called Voice of Curtorim, a singling completion for juniors and seniors, which is one of the most popular competitions in Curtorim. Our village is known for its contribution to the music scene in Goa, especially our strong connection with Mando," said Vivek Da Veiga, president, Curtorim carnival committee (CCC). [TOI]
