Lokotsav 2018 set to begin in Panjim from Jan 12

Panjim: Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude on Monday said that Lokotsav-2018 will be held from January 12 to 21 at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy, and around 500 folk artistes will present folk dances and music of their respective states, while 600 craftsmen will display handicraft items.Addressing the media, Gaude said, “A perfect platform is given to artisans to showcase and sell their crafts. This is 19th Lokotsav in Goa and its popularity is increasing. Folk artistes and craftsmen from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam, Manipur, Haryana, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura and Goa are invited to present the folk art of their respective states. Folk dancers from Jharkhand will perform during this edition.”
Gaude added, “More than 500 stalls will exhibit handicraft items which includes Bandhani, Kathputali, lakh Bengals, leather bags and chappals, khadi, kotha & silk material, handmade garments, carpets, glass, clay art, furniture, wooden toys, block print, appliqué work as well as Goan crafts. Goans will be able to enjoy traditional food items of Rajasthan and other states from 10am to 10pm.”The minister said that the allotment of stalls will be held on January 10 and 11.The folk festival is organised by Directorate of Art and Culture, every year in collaboration with the West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur, Kala Academy, Goa, Sports Authority of Goa, Corporation of the City of Panaji, South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur, Department of Art and Culture, Jharkhand & other agencies in order to promote the folk culture and handicrafts from different states and also from Goa.
