Loutolim reach semi-finals
SCC Loutolim entered the semi-finals of Wilred Leisure Super Soccer when they registered a hard fought 1-0 victory against St Anthony’s SC, Colva in an exciting quarter-finals played at DSYA grounds, Curtorim on Monday.
The all-important goal for Loutolim was scored in the 55th minute of the second session of play by their striker Edwin Fernandes.
Receiving a good pass from the right off Mark Fernandes,Edwin ran down the flank, dodged past two rival defenders and then controlling the ball well unleashed a powerful shot to beat Colva keeper Dulio Andrade.
Though there was no score in the first half of play,the teams made several goal-bound moves which fizzled out due to inapt shooting abilities on both the sides.
Both the teams tried their level best to find the mark in the first half with accelerating moves but ended in shooting wayward and thus could not get to the target even from close distance.
Both the teams had equal scoring opportunities in the first half of play. It was the Colva team who had the first try at the rival goal when striker Rayan Fernandes unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box but the Loutolim keeper Minguel Ataide kept his cool and brought off a smart save. The Loutolim keeper continued with his fine showing in the second session too and eventually won the man-of-the-match award.
It was an action packed match all the while as both the teams put up their best in dishing out an entertaining brand of football. At one stage Colva team almost got the equaliser but the Loutolim keeper Minguel, sensing danger, charged out and foiled striker David Costa. On another occasion, the Loutolim keeper denied Rayan Fernandes from finding the mark as he brought off a smart save. The match continued with the hot pace all the while and a goal looked imminent. Colva did build pressure but the Loutolim keeper stood his ground well to foil all the attempts.
Both the teams depended on short passes and occasionally relied on the long ball during which time, the strikers of both the teams were seen doubling it up to beat the defence which did a fine job at both the ends. Colva even made some last ditch efforts to beat the rival keeper Minguel Ataide but he was in no mood to buckle under any pressure.
Loutolim now meet Sporting Club of Davorlim in the semi-finals clash
