Love affairs trigger 15% of crimes

Love affairs or sexual reasons account for around 10-15 per cent of crimes including murders, suicides, kidnaps and rapes, revealed the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Mr Umesh Gaonkar. Mr Gaonkar also claimed that maximum love-related crimes are reported from Margao and Maina-Curtorim areas with cases of bus conductors and drivers eloping with young girls being prime reasons. Mr Gaonkar said that many a times, crimes such as self immolation and burning of spouses are outcomes of extramarital affairs. He added that sometimes offenders misuse mobile handsets, internet and e-mails to their advantage. Sometimes college students develop intimate relationships and even go to the extent of engaging in sex. However, when parents come to know about it, a case of rape or abduction is lodged. Sometimes love-stricken children try to commit suicides.  [NT]
