Madkaikar spent most, Arlekar the least

Panjim: Election expenses of the candidates in North Goa, stood between five per cent and 35 per cent of the prescribed limit of Rs 20 lakh, fixed by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The South Goa candidates have not yet submitted their expenses.As per information available with the Chief Electoral Office (CEO), candidates have submitted their daily campaign expenses from January to February 1 (some have not shown the expenses till the last day).As per the data, BJP Cumbharjua candidate Pandurang Madkaikar tops the expenses chart with Rs 6.23 lakh, followed by Porvorim Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte whose expenditure stood at Rs 4.16 lakh.Minister Rajendra Arlekar, contesting from Pernem has shown the least expense of Rs 78,647. Details from Mapusa, Saligao and Siolim constituencies were not available with the CEO.
Leader of the Opposition and Congress’ Poriem candidate Pratapsingh Rane has occupied third place with total expenditure of Rs 3.72 lakh. Rane, the senior most MLA has been contesting the polls for almost five decades. On the other hand, his son Vishwajit, contesting from Valpoi, has shown his expenditure as only Rs 84,000.
BJP MLA and Calangute candidate Michael Lobo, the MLA with highest assets, has shown his campaign expenditure at 3.23 lakh.Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who was among the few MLAs who showed a negative growth in his assets in 2017 compared to 2012, is fourth in rank with expenses of Rs 2.18 lakh.
MGP Bicholim candidate Naresh Sawal’s expenditure stood at Rs 1.82 lakh, while BJP’s Panjim MLA and candidate Siddharath Kuncalienkar spent Rs 1.08 lakh on his campaign.The Panjim candidate of United Goans and former St Cruz MLA Atanasio Monserrate, whose assets declined by nearly Rs 7 crore between 2012 and 2017, spent Rs 1.46 lakh on his election campaign. His wife Jennifer, Congress candidate in Taleigao has not submitted the details of her expense. BJP Tivim candidate and sitting MLA Kiran Kandolkar has shown his expense as Rs 1.19 lakh. [H]
