Maha fisherman held for drug possession

 

A fisherman, Shripad Tandel, 37, from Vegurla in Maharashtra was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Goa police on Monday at Morjim for allegedly illegally possessing 1.026kg of charas. The charas is worth 1.55 lakh in the international market. "The accused is a fisherman by profession and wanted to earn more money by selling drugs in Goa," said ANC sources
 
On January 21, PSI Shitakant Nayak received information that a male Indian national, aged between 35 and 40 years, short and with a medium build, wearing a cream shirt and blue pants would be coming to deliver charas to a prospective customer near the bus stop shed at Khendeer junction in Morjim.
 
ANC sources said that its team swung into action and was able to apprehend Tandel. In addition to the drugs, the team also seized cash of Rs 130, one cellphone and a laminated election epic card.
 
The ANC has registered the offence under appropriate sections of the NDPS Act. Sources also said that the accused would be produced in court to seek a remand. [TOI]
