Mahashivratri celebrated with traditional fervour

 

 Mahashivratri was celebrated in different parts of the state with pomp and gaiety marked by a variety of religious rituals and grand participation by devotees on Sunday.
 
In Bicholim, the major celebration was held at Rudreshwar temple at Arvalem where a large number of devotees performed abhishekam on the sacred Shivlinga amid chanting of Shivmahimnastotra and Rudra Sukta. The premises of Rudreshwar temple remained crowded right from the early morning. There was a police bandobast at the temple.
Mahashivratri was also celebrated at Saptakoteshwar temple, Narvem; Mahadev temple Bicholim; Mahamaya temple, Bordem; Dattatraya temple, Audumbarwadi-Bordem; Vathdev temple, Vathadev-Bicholim; Nagnath temple, Mulgao-Bicholim; Mahadev temple, Kailsanagar-Assanora, and other temples in the surrounding
areas.
At Shree Damodar temple in Fatorda in South Goa, thousands of devotees took darshan and offered tirt prasad. The devotees also offered abhishekam.
Elaborate arrangements were made for devotees to take darshan of the deity at the temple. “The pooja started at 4 a.m. and continued till noon,” informed the pujari, Mr Gokuldas Shikerkar. He added that this time, it being a Sunday, the crowd was more.   
Other temples at Pimpal katta-Margao, Zambaulim also witnessed huge crowds with elaborate rituals to mark the day. A large number of people from Margao and other parts of Goa visited Zambaulim and took darshan of
Lord Damodar. [NT]
