Man dupes Russian over promises to marry


The Colva police on Tuesday booked an offence against Sunil Kumar, resident of Kudtarkar building, Colva, on charges of raping a 39-year-old Russian woman, and against Ankit Kumar, on charges of threatening her of dire consequences if she reported the matter to the police.
Police sources said that the victim lodged a complaint stating that Sunil befriended her over Skype in October 2012 by introducing himself as a divorcee and expressed his willingness to marry her. As they entered into a relationship, Sunil also induced her to invest funds in his business. Sunil had consensual sex with her on many occasions upon promise of marriage, the victim said in her complaint, police sources said.
Realizing that she was duped on false promises of marriage, the victim lodged a police complaint.
The Colva police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 376,420,506(ii), r/w 34 IPC. Further investigations are under way.
The Quepem police also booked a case against the two accused on Tuesday on a complaint lodged by another Russian woman on charges of molestation, cheating and wrongful restraint.
The complaint states that the accused invited her to invest funds in a real estate project in 2010. However, when she realized that she had been duped, she confronted the duo, but was threatened, abused with filthy language and molested. [TOI]
