The Mapusa Block Congress Committee, held its meeting at Mapusa, which was presided over by the block president, Mr Vijay Bhike.

Besides Mr Bhike, the meeting was attended by mahila block president, Ms Meetali Gadekar, general secretary, Mr Manoj Gadekar, block youth president, Mr Amjad Khan, Seva Dal president, Mr Milind Mahale, Seva Dal mahila president, Ms Meena Gadekar, North Goa district secretary, Mr Chandan Mandrekar, Seva Dal secretary, Mr Pawan Navelkar, booth president, Mr Sudin Naik, GPCC general secretary, Mr Gurudas Natekar and other executive members.
As per the guidelines of the GPCC president, many union and state government schemes were emphasised upon and strengthening the Mapusa block by enrolling more members was also discussed . Since the union Government had launched direct cash transfer of subsidy, the meeting congratulated the union government and asked the block members to avail the benefit so that workers and the common man are happy.
The meeting went hammer and tongs against the present state government under which there was a sudden rise in theft and murder cases, with the Mapusa police failing on all fronts to detect such murder and theft cases.
The speakers pointed that it was a matter of shame for the police that a murder accused was still roaming free in the hills of Siolim, Camurlim and surrounding areas and that the police were unable to nab him with even the DGP admitting openly that culprits and accused persons today were smarter than the police. The meeting condemned the deteriorating law and order and also condemned the government for neglecting Mapusa. Speakers felt that genuine projects had fallen behind time and the need of the hour was a new Mapusa bus stand, work of which was yet to take off. The meeting also lashed out at the laying of a synthetic track at the Peddem ground for the upcoming Lusofonia games and speakers said that this would not benefit the common man. [NT]
