Margao councillors want full-time CO
Margao Municipal Councillors on Thursday demanded a full-fledged Chief Officer as the newly-appointed CO Sandhya Kamat is holding additional charge as Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Quepem.
Since Ms Kamat took over the reigns of office on January 1, she has been unable to devote full-time to the civic body. Councillors pointed out that the first woman Chief Officer is shuttling between Quepem and Margao on a daily basis, affecting the municipal administration.
Councillor Raju Naik said a Class A municipality such as the Margao civic body ought to have a full-fledged Chief Officer to meet the requirements of the citizens.
It is learnt that since she assumed charged of the Margao civic body, Ms Kamat could not devote a full day for the civic body because of her pre-occupation with official work at Quepem.
Sources said the Ms Kamat is presently pre-occupied with the revision of electoral rolls, restricting her movement and functions.
Margao city fathers say that the civic body administration has been lying in doldrums ever since outgoing chief officer Srinet Kothwale received his transfer to the industries department, before the transfer was held in abeyance, but which came into effect from January 1 this year. [H]
