Margao police nab garment thief at railway road
Smart thinking and rapid action by the police led to a thief being nabbed at the railway station road in Margao Sunday night. Police caught 20-year-old Mehboob Kalimani, a native of Hubli, red-handed, while he was trying to make off with two bags full of branded readymade garments.
Observing that the modus operandi of the thieves entailed removing the roof tiles to gain entry into the shops, Margao police PI Sudesh Naik posted two policemen to keep a vigil during the night hours at a vantage location from where they could get a clear view of the roof-tiled garment shops located in the vicinity.
The plan proved successful when on the fifth day, the two police constables-Kishore Parpati and Saeesh Mandrekar- saw a figure trying to climb down from the roof after removing the tiles. The cops immediately informed the Margao town police station and more cops were sent to the site.
During the search operations, the police found the accused hiding inside the dressing room of the shop and nabbed him. The other accomplice who was standing guard outside, however, fled, police sources said.
"The accused is found to be involved in four cases of thefts. He would steal two bags of branded garments each time and sell them off at cheap rates on the roadsides. We suspect involvement of more persons in the gang," PI Sudesh Naik said. [TOI]
