Mark, Joel seal semis spot for SC Davorlim

Benaulim: Strikes from Mark Borges and Joel Colaso enabled Sporting Club of Davorlim register a come from behind 2-1 win over Varca SC and enter the semifinals of 20th Benaulim Villagers Cup football tournament played at St John, the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Tuesday.
All the goals came in the second session of play with the first half remaining blank. Varca went into the lead in the 46th minute when attacking midfielder Macline Mascarenhas took a shot off a pass from Joylon Cardozo which gave no chance to Davorlim keeper Roston Miranda.
Davorlim retaliated within the next seven minutes when Mark Borges sent a placement shot off a pass from Chico Menezes to beat the Varca keeper Carmo Rebello.
Midway into the second half, Varca keeper Carmo showed good anticipation to foil some attacks from Davorlim strikers. Varca defenders Joyson Fernandes, Leo Martins, Elroy Rodrigues and Elvis Rebello played well.
Receiving a pass from the left flank off Cliffton Rebello, Davorlim striker Joel Colaso dodged two defenders before scoring the match winner.
Though Varca midfilders Macline Mascarenhas and Daniel Fernandes tried their best to get the equaliser by making some long shots, Davorlim keeper Roston Miranda stood strong.
Sporting Club of Davorlim will now meet St Anthony’s SC, Assolda in the semifinals.[NT]
