Max Veterans emerge champs


Max Veterans, Colva got the better of Amanda Sporting Veterans, Panjim 5- 4 via the tie- breaker to emerge champions of 1st all- Goa Aristides Dias memorial veterans soccer tournament organized by Raitura Sports Club, Raia at panchayat ground, Raia, recently. The score was 1- 1 at full time.
In an exciting match, Max Veterans devised a well thought plan and restricted Amanda Veterans strikers Rosario Carvalho and Frankie Mascarenhas. The Amanda strikers tried to put their team ahead but were thwarted by Colva defenders Willy Moraes and Seby Coelho.
Max Veterans’ midfield was manned by Alfred Fernandes, Mathew D'Costa and Anthony Feranandes. For Amanda, Raymond D'Souza and Minguel Miranda and Rafik Bepari alongwith Raju Raikar stood tall in protecting their citadel. Amanda sorely missed the services of Pascoal Pereira, Rock Carneiro and Ramesh Palkar as they had to attend the Sports Medicine Seminar organized by Goa Football Development Council, at Taj Vivanta, here.
Max Veterans’ had a few anxious moments but goalkeeper Constancio came to his side’s rescue and denied Frankie. Later, Constancio pulled of another save in the dying minutes off a Robin Pinhario attempt and the rebound was cleared away by the alert Willy.
In the tie- breaker, Max Veterans outmatched their rivals and converted through Alfred Fernandes, Seby Coelho, Antush Ferrao and Santan Furtado while Augusto Pereira, Raju Raikar, Frankie Mascarenhas and Raymond D'- Souza neeted for Amanda.
Rosario Carvalho’s attempt was saved by Seby Coelho.
