MCC ground continues its sporting legacy

The Margao Cricket Club (MCC) ground which was better known as Dr Rajendra Prasad stadium had once been the hub of football where yesteryear greats entertained in top tournaments which were held at this south Goa venue.

Dr Rajendra Prasad stadium even hosted the Santosh Trophy nationals in 1971 wherein Goa lost in the semi-finals via the tie-breaker against the mighty West Bengal after tying 1-1 in the regulation time with a superlative goal scored by international striker Bernad D’Souza right from the centre line within few seconds when Goa went into the arrears. The tie-breaker had to be conducted next day in the morning at Tilak grounds, where Goa lost, after sending two shots wide. [NT]
