Metrology department seizes helmets sans ISI mark worth Rs 40,000

The department of legal metrology conducted raids at two different places in Salcete on Monday and seized helmets worth over 45,000.
The raids were conducted on receiving information from an RTO official that helmets without the mandatory ISI mark and MRP printed on them were being sold at these places.
In the first case, the raid was conducted on a roadside seller, Imam Jaffer, near Carmel College, Nuvem, and 10 helmets were seized. Sources said that Jaffer used to store his stock of helmets at a nearby godown and would bring out 10 helmets each time to display on the highway for sale. All the helmets found in the godown were also seized.
In the second case, the legal metrology team raided 'H K Helmets' owned by Hardesh Gupta at Ambora, Raia, and seized a large number of helmets.
A team of the legal metrology department, acting on a complaint lodged by Joaquim Gracias, raided a shop dealing in sanitary ware at Arlem. The complainant had pointed out that that the MRP printed on the goods was fudged. [TOI]
