Milagres Sports Club managed to scrape past Saligao Sporting Club 4-3 to taste their first win in the GFA 2nd Division League at Sangolda grounds, on Monday.
Both the teams played almost on equal footing in the first session of play where they went into the breather locked in a 1-1 draw.
In the 12th minute, Saligao side broke the deadlock through Sandesh Sangodkar’s 25-yard strike. Milagres fought back and levelled terms almost in a similar fashion, through a long ranger by Brian Fernandes.
On crossing over, Saligao should have taken the lead but the Saligao team-mates and their supporters were shocked as referee Ramanth Lotlikar denied them a clear cut penalty after Milgares defender Avito Fernandes tackled Ajay Diwadkar inside the danger zone.
However, in the 10th minute of play, a free-kick by Nazi Aboo almost from the centre was not cleanly collected by the Milagres keeper Rowell Pinto, to find Ajay Diwadkar tap the ball home, 2-1.
Milagres exerted tremendous pressure on the rival citadel and not only levelled terms through Krishna Chougle’s superb goal, but scored two more goals through Joaquim Pacheco and Manuel Viegas, 4-2.
The third goal for Saligao Sporting came a bit too late through the boots of Ryan D’Mello to make it 4-3.
Raia SC collected full points when they registered a 2-1 victory against Sao Jose de Areal in the second divison football league match played at Raia grounds on Monday.
There was no score in the first half of play even as both the teams tried their level best to find the mark in this session. All the goals came in the second session of play.
Raia went into the lead midway into the second session through Adison Oliveira who beat the rival keeper with ease after he was fed nicely with a cross from the left flank.
Raia then buttressed their lead when Alan Carvalho found the mark with a low drive.
Sao Jose de Areal reduced the margin through Franky Valadares. Raia have now collected six points from three matches so far. [NT]
