Call it mischief or otherwise, unknown miscreants went on a wild spree, damaging and puncturing tyres of four-wheelers parked in and around the Aquem area of the Commercial capital late Saturday night.
While Margao police said that they have received around 25 complaints from owners of four-wheelers, more than 45 cars were damaged or left punctured by the miscreants. Vehicles parked inside the Pratibha housing society and the adjoining Kamat housing complex, besides vehicles parked along roadsides right from Pandva Church junction to the Power house were targeted by the miscreants.
CCTV footage showed three persons involved in the act, even as the Margao police are on the job trying to identify the trio and registering complaints from the victims.
The incident has left the Margao police baffled as complaints started pouring in from the victims since Sunday morning. While some of the tyres were punctured with a sharp weapon, tubeless tyres were cut by the miscreants, rendering them useless. In many cases, all the four tyres were left punctured as evident by multiple damage marks.
The victims requisitioned the services of tyre repairers to Aquem, who came with compressors to remove the punctures, only to find some
of the tyres badly damaged.
When contacted, Margao PI Sudesh Naik said that he has received a joint complaint from a citizen of Aquem, Anil Pai on the damage caused to the vehicles. Besides, the police has received a number of individual complaints, taking the number to around 25.
“CCTV footage shows that the incident occurred around 11.30 pm when the three miscreants went about damaging the vehicle tyres. The police are in the process of identifying the three miscreants”, he added.
Margao Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Mohan Naik said the incident appears an act of mischief by the three persons. “We are investigating into the incident”, he said. [H]
