MMC directed to file written arguments in Fomento Green case ahead of next hearing

Margao: The Margao Municipal Council has been directed to submit its written arguments before the Court in the Fomento Green case. Fomento has stuck to its stand that the MMC owes them Rs 14 crore as per agreement. It also said that the rejected waste is piling up inside the plant.

The case was posted for final hearing on Tuesday before the Court of the Principal Sessions Judge.

However, the advocate representing the municipality did not appear for the hearing due to his ill-health. Hence, the court directed the MMC to submit its written arguments before next date, failing which the final order will be pronounced. The next hearing is on January 28.

Meanwhile, the Shadow Council said, “As the councillors were occupied with their demand for a pleasure jaunt to Mount Abu, the arbitration matter saw little progress towards settlement. It is most shocking to learn that the MMC was not represented today at the hearing.”

Shadow Council chief Savio Coutinho said that the Council is paying Rs 1 lakh per day since August 10, 2019.

“Therefore, it is high time that the citizens of Margao rise to question their elected representatives over this bleeding of the public treasury, lest be prepared for exorbitant rise in taxes,” Coutinho said. [H]
