MMC to crack whip against erring officials
The Margao Municipal Council has mulled a slew of measures to tone up the civic administration by cracking a whip against erring officials and monitoring the revenue recoveries on a day-to-day basis.
At a meeting convened by the Chairperson Arthur D’Silva with Chief Officer Srinet Kotwale and other staff, it was decided that the revenue recovery section of the civic body would report to the chairperson on a daily basis.
Athur told newsmen after the meeting that the revenue recovery cell was made abundantly clear that the recoveries were not up to the mark. “I have told officials manning the cell to report to me the recoveries on a daily basis. This will not only help in monitoring the tax recoveries, but devise ways and means to improve recoveries of outstanding arrears”, he said.
That’s not all. Given that the fish vendors have made their presence felt at the old fish market once again, the Chairperson has fixed responsibility on the market inspectors and the workers working under them. While strict instructions were issued to the workers and inspectors to come down with a heavy hand on the fish vendors, the chairperson warned them of strong action for defaulting in their duties. “I have told them that erring staff and workers will be served memos for dereliction of duties and suspension after receiving three memos”, Arthur warned.
Meanwhile, Chief Officer Kotwale made his presence felt in the civic body on Monday morning after more than a week after his unceremonious transfer to the Industries Department.
He will hold office till December 31, 2012 as per the government order. [H]
