MMC to slap eviction notice on Sahakar Bhandar unit

Vasco: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Monday decided to slap eviction notice on Goa Sahakar Bhandar (Pushpandha Stores) Vasco unit, as the building under which this superstore has been under operation since last several decades has become very weak and might collapse anytime in the near future. The decision was taken following a site inspection held on Monday where MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik, Chairperson Deepak Naik and other municipal engineers opined that the superstore building which is owned by MMC and rented out to Goa Sahakar Bhandar on lease has not only developed cracks but at many places, the cement plaster from the ceiling has collapsed at regular intervals. It was also opined that the building is unfit for any repairs and might not survive next monsoon season.
Thus taking precautionary measures and in the interest of citizens using this store facility, such decision has been taken and MMC will ensure strict compliance to its directions.”Last Friday the building was in news as a portion of cement plaster from the ceiling inside this superstore building collapsed on Friday night. Today, we inspected the building and noticed that the structure has developed severe cracks and the building is in a dangerous condition. We don’t want to put people’s lives at risk and thus we have decided to issue eviction notice to the store management asking them to vacate the premises shortly as the building is in dilapidated condition,” said MMC chairperson Deepak Naik.Naik said, “As several other buildings owned by MMC are also lying in similar condition, we have decided to recheck the status of these buildings and then take appropriate action.” [H]
