Morchas prohibited in city, near Assembly complex from Nov 17-30
In an attempt to prevent any untoward incident during the upcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI), scheduled to be held in the city, the district magistrate of North Goa, Mr R Mihir Vardhan has prohibited all kinds of protests, rallies, and morchas/processions from November 17 to November 30 (midnight).
The prohibitory orders have been issued as some organisations, especially those affected by suspension of mining, etc were likely to hold protest marches, agitations, etc which could create uncontrollable situations including paralysis of traffic and could breach maintenance of public order, peace and tranquility or disrupt the IFFI that would be held here from November 20 to 30.
The district magistrate’s order banning assembly of people within the jurisdiction of Panaji police station and within 500 metres around the Assembly complex, Porvorim, is to prevent any law and order problem during the event. The order also states that adoption of preventive measures were necessary for the maintenance of public order, peace and tranquility during the period. [NT]
