MPT chief accounts officer transferred to Mumbai
The Union Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways has transferred the chief accounts officer of Mormugao Port Trust, Mr Suresh Shirwadkar, who was also holding the charge of general secretary of Mormugao Port Trust Education Society, to Tariff Authority for Major Ports (TAMP) in Mumbai, after he was found guilty of dereliction of duties.
According to highly-placed MPT sources, when Mr Shirwadkar had gone to offer a demand draft of Rs 5 lakh to the girl, who was raped in a MPT-run school at Headland-Sada, he had allegedly tried to downplay the cruelty of the crime which had upset the parents.
After an investigation, MPT had sent a report to the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways to Delhi. The deputy chief mechanical engineer of MPT, Mr Eddy Rodrigues has been handed over the charge of general secretary of the Society.
Meanwhile, the father of the victim girl on Wednesday claimed that he has never tried to compromise on the issue by accepting money from anyone. Speaking to this paper, he has sought people’s support for justice.
“I have full trust in people especially people of Vasco, who have stood behind my daughter and my family ever since the incident,” said the father. [NT]
