MPT’s new cruise terminal all set to welcome first vessel

VASCO: Come Tuesday and the state-of-the-art cruise terminal built by Mormugao Port Trust at Mormugao Harbour will welcome its first cruise vessel.

According to port sources, a cruise vessel ‘Aegean Odyssey’ will arrive at the newly constructed berth in the morning with around 350 foreign tourists from UK, America, New Zealand, Australia and others onboard. It was also disclosed that around eight cruise vessels are expected to berth at the new terminal till December 12.

The MPT has set up a tourist information counter of Goa tourism department in order to facilitate the foreign tourists arriving at the new cruise terminal. Services of tourist guides would also be made available at the cruise terminal. The MPT has also made arrangement for other facilities for tourists.

‘Aegean Odyssey’ cruise vessel would leave for Cochin late in the evening on November 20. As the port authorities are facing extreme financial crunch due to the closure of iron ore export and handling of coal and coke at berths numbers 10 and 11, the opening of cruise terminal exclusively for the foreign vessels is expected to provide some financial respite.
