Muslim dominated area reserved for OBC candidate

Ponda: The Muslims in Ward Number 6 of Curti Panchayat are feeling a sense of injustice after ward number 6 with a large Muslim population was rserved for the OBC. They feel politicians have a hand in it and since the process leading to the elections have commenced, it would become difficult for them to file objections before the court. They hoped the government would reconsider this move.Ward number 6 comprises of Bablyakhali and Nagzar area. Panch member Naved Tehsildar who represents ward number 6 speaking to the Herald said ” Ward number 4, 6 and 7 have been reserved for OBC without considering the composition of the population. This ward has a muslim majority population with total around 1184 Votes out of which hardly 3 houses of OBC with around 16 Voters are staying in this ward”.
When asked what the criteria was for reserving the seat for a OBC, he said one third voters should belong to the OBC community. Hence I think it is injustice”. Sajjad Mulla, another Panch member of Curti Panchayat said ward 4 and 7 were also reserved for obc despite having a muslim dominant population  and this meant a muslim candidate would not be able to contest. Both panch members asked the Government to rethink and take urgent  the decision on reservation in Curti Panchayat.According to Shankar Naik during the last election ward number 9 was reserved for OBC as majority of OBC population is staying here.He expressed surprised over reservation of OBC ward in Muslim Area.
