NABARD sanctions Rs 141 cr to State

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned a loan of Rs 141.10 crore to Goa under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) which government proposes to construct three crucial bridges ~ Calvim-Aldona bridge across the Mapusa River, Tormas-Ozrim bridge across Chapora River and a parallel Arpora-Baga bridge across the Baga Creek besides completing works of the Tillari canal.
NABARD has sanctioned Rs 70.65 crore for ongoing work on the Tillari irrigation project for the current year, taking the total assistance by NABARD in the last five years to Rs 341 crore.
The assistance will be used for new and ongoing works in the main canal and distributaries.
These works are expected to create an additional irrigation potential of 3887 hectares in the current year.
GSIDC will construct the Aldona – Calvim at a cost of Rs. 63 crore; the Tormas – Ozari Sangowada bridge in Pernem taluka at a cost of Rs.21 crore, utilising the loan.
While the Calvim bridge having a length of 494 mts. will provide connectivity across river Mapusa, the Tormas bridge across river Chapora will reduce the distance to Mapusa for about 11 villages by 13 kms.
The parallel bridge constructed at Arpora – Baga at a cost of Rs.4.93 crore and a loan of Rs.3.84 crore is another project assisted under RIDF.
The bridge on the main district road will ease the traffic in the busy Calangute area.
With this assistance of Rs.141 crore, the cumulative loan to Government of Goa stands at Rs 590.34 crore of which the State Government has already availed Rs 393.96 crore. [H]
