Natya-Film Mohatsav to start on March 16

With the sole purpose of developing the prospects of Konkani cinema in Goa, Kala Chetna – Volvoi will host the 9th edition of Natya-Film Mohatsav from March 16 to March 21 at Savoi Verem, Ponda. NT BUZZ brings you the details
Traditional theatre and dance are deep-rooted in our culture, but with the advent of the new-age film industry in the mainstream, local talent is being sidelined. To keep the flag of Konkani culture and heritage flying high, Kala Chetna–Volvoi in association with Art and Culture Department of Goa will organise the 9th edition of Natya-Film Mohatsav at Panchayat ground, Savoi Verem from March 16 to March 21. The six-day long festival has several activities lined up including staging and screening of award winning Konkani and Marathi dramas from the Kala Academy’s Konkani and Marathi drama competition. Natya-Film Mohatsav is organised in collaboration with Kala Academy, Panaji.“There are many film producers in Goa but we are short of viewers who will watch their work,” said chairman of Kala Chetna–Volvoi, Rajdeep Naik speaking at a press conference held on Tuesday at Kala Academy, Panaji; he stressed that for the viewership to increase, the films have to be screened for the local audience.
The Natya-Film Mohatsav will be inaugurated on March 16 by minister for power and social welfare, Pandurang Madkaikar at 7 p.m. The inaugural function will be followed by staging of the Konkani drama titled ‘Ranmoni Ani Randhani’ that won the first prize in the Konkani Section at the Kala Academy’s Konkani drama competition. This will be followed by staging the second prize winner in the Marathi drama competition – ‘Ekrup Hou Saglle’ at 8 p.m. and Konkani drama ‘Asmitai’, third prize winner in the Konkani section will be staged at 9 p.m.On March 17, Ek Dant Kala Sangh, Panchwadi will present their Konkani drama ‘Saran Jaltana’ at 7 p.m. and on March 18 Mangal Murti Kala Bahar, Bhirondem, Sattari will present their Marathi drama ‘And A Poison Apple For Me Please’ which won the first prize at Kala Academy in the Marathi section will be staged at 7 p.m.The last three days will see screenings of award winning films directed by Goan filmmakers. On March 19 Konkani film ‘Nirmon’ will be screened, on March 20 comedy sci-fi Konkani film ‘Hanv Tum, Tum Hanv’ and on March 21, National award winning Konkani film ‘Enemy’ will be screened. All the films will be screened at 7 p.m. Each screening will be followed by an interactive session with the artistes of the plays or films. [NT]
