Navelim Villagers Union enter semis

Navelim Villagers Union entered the semi-finals of Our Lady of Fatima Cup football tournament when they registered a solitary-goal victory in the quarter-finals against a fighting Rising Stars of Ugem at Dicarpale grounds on Friday.

The all-important goal was scored by Navelim’s ace striker Alvito Colaco in the very fifth minute.

Receiving a square pass on the right flank from Sunny Colaco, Alvito raced down into the box, cut past two rival defenders following him hotly and then on the run sent a stiff grounder that had no answer from the Ugem keeper.

The match was then played at a fast pace with the young Ugem team trying their level best to find the equaliser. The pressure on the Navelim team was so much that in the second session they resorted to only defending their citadel rather than going in for the attack.

Ugem’s Nixon Pereira and Derek Fernandes tried some long rangers in the last ten minutes of play to try and restore parity but their shots were off the target.

Navelim Villagers Union now await the winners between Nuvem SC and Ambelim SC to clash in the semi-finals. [NT]
