NCP gets in rebuilding mode, eyes Lok Sabha polls

To galvanize the state unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), an organizing committee under the chairmanship of the state NCP president Nilkanth Halarnkar was announced on Monday. This committee will constitute all the block level committees across the state.
NCP Goa observer Deepak Kesarkar said this committee will organize the party at the grassroot level and constitute all blocks.
There are around 28,000 NCP members in the state. He also said that after the block committees are constituted, members of the state executive committee will be announced in one month's time. Till that time, the old executive committee will continue. Kesarkar said that the NCP will contest the North Goa Lok Sabha poll as NCP has been contesting the same seat for the last many years, but a final decision would be taken by the Congress and NCP high command. Senior vice president Jose Philip D'Souza is also on the organizing committee. Trajano D'Mello has been appointed as chief spokesperson.
Avinash Bhonsale and Leo Dias will look after the party affairs at its headquarters, Ashish Shirodkar and Prakash Kalangutkar will look after North Goa and Francis Almeida and Usuf Khan will look after South Goa.
He also said with the coordination of the Congress party, the party will try to raise the issues of public interest in the assembly as the NCP does not have a single MLA representing it. [TOI]
