The chairman of the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority, Mr Krishna Salkar, said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a true leader of our nation and that he inspired others to work sincerely and with dedication.
He was addressing as the chief guest on the occasion of the fancy dress competition, organised by the Murgao Senior Citizens Artists Sanghatana, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Janata Vachanalaya Hall in Vasco. The fancy dress competition was based on the qualities of Shivaji.
The social worker, Mr Chandrakant Gawas was the guest of honor. The artist, Mr Arjun Parab, MSCAS president, Mr Waman Chodankar, acting president, Mr Mohan Dicholkar, secretary, Mr Prabhakar Mule, treasurer, Mr Uttam Arondekar and Ms Aruna Naik were present on the dais.
Speaking further, Mr Salkar stressed that there is a need of positive thinking among the people by adopting the qualities of Shivaji. He called upon the parents to provide better education facilities and to mould the children by telling stories of Shivaji and other national heroes who fought for India’s independence.
The social worker, Mr Chandrakant Gawas informed that it is the duty of the parents to mould their children at a young age. He recalled and gave the example of Jijabai Bhosle, the mother of Shivaji, who kept telling Shivaji stories of quality leadership since his childhood.
Mr Parab gave information about Shivaji to the parents and the children who attended the function.
In the fancy dress competition, Laxmi Dharmanand Morajkar of Government School, Headland-Sada bagged the first prize, while the second prize was awarded to Saish Yeshwant Parvatkar of Deepvihar School, Headland-Sada. The third and fourth prizes were given to Sanket Premnath Parab of Government School, Sada and Pranay Vengurlekar of Deepvihar School, Sada, respectively. The function was compered by Mr Ramdas Parab, while Mr Baptist D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. [NT]
