New pub set ablaze before its opening
In what seems to be a business rivalry, a newly set up pub ~ Butter ~ at Patto, here, which was scheduled to open this week was allegedly set on fire by unknown miscreants in the wee hours of Wednesday.
In his complaint to the Panjim police station, Gregg Furtado alleged that two men came to the pub covering their faces with handkerchief and carried a plastic container to set the pub on fire.
“…checked CCTV footage and have clearly seen that two persons coming to my pub holding the plastic can with face covered with handkerchief… They threw the liquid from the can over the front portion of the pub and set it on fire,” the complainant stated.
According to the CCTV footage, the place was set on fire at about 3 am and the miscreants fled away within five minutes of executing the crime.
According to the complainant, the damage due to the fire was approximately to the tune of Rs 2 lakh.
Panjim police said a case under sections 436 (Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc) read with 34 (common intention) of the IPC has been registered and search for the accused men was on. [H]
