NGOs question CM’s stand on gram sabhas’ say in RP decisions
Gram sabhas were music for Manohar Parrikar's ears when he was leader of opposition but as chief minister it's a reason of irritation, this is how non-government organizations (NGO) react to the recent statement of Parrikar where he has said that gram sabhas cannot decide on regional plan.
Speaking to TOI, Yatish Naik, legal advisor of Pilerne citizens forum said that when Parrikar set out on his Jan Sampark Abhiyan in January 2012, before the election, he distributed brochures in which he praised the role of gram sabhas and NGO's in exposing the misdeeds of the previous government vis-a-vis the regional plan.
"What has happened to promises after Parrikar has taken over as chief minister is there for all to see. The voice of the gram sabhas which used to be music to Parrikar's ears is now irritation," he said.
Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA) co-convener Sabina Martins said that in all institutions of democracy there is debate. Parliament, assembly, panchayat keep witnessing debates and Parrikar says that gram sabhas are akhaddas (wrestling rings). He should not forget that he is also a part of the akhaddas. [TOI]
