No Aadhar, no LPG subsidy, North Goa users told

The Union ministry of petroleum and natural gas has requested domestic LPG consumers in North Goa to register their Aadhaar number with local distributors to avail subsidy on cylinders from February 15.

The ministry has plans to launch direct transfer of subsidy soon and has urged them to register by February 15. The ministry has chosen districts with maximum coverage of Aadhar enrolment. "The South Goa district will be covered later," a source said. The scheme of direct transfer of subsidy will be operational from April 14 in the country.

The state has nearly 5 lakh LPG consumers, but hardly 10% have registered in North Goa so far, sources said.

LGP customers in North Goa will have to pay 959 per refill from February 2, 2013. "This is regardless of the number of refills availed from September 14, 2012," a LPG distributor said. The difference of 541 between the market rate and subsidized rate will be credited to the customer's bank account once they are registered.

"Those who have incomplete addresses, multiple connections and have not submitted their KYC forms will be charged 1,203.50 (exempted category rate) as instructed by oil companies," Yogesh Thakur, manager of a North Goa-based gas agency said. [TOI]
