‘No agents working at Margao RTO’
The director of Transport, Mr Arun Desai, on Tuesday, refuted the allegation that touts are working at the Margao RTO.
“I refute it. There are no agents working at the Margao RTO,’’ Mr Desai said further asking the reporters to complain if they come across such incidents, when brought to the notice that agents are causing nuisance and are forcing the visitors to approach the motor vehicle inspectors through them.
He further said, “People are firing in the air without proper information. We cannot concentrate on such allegations.”
When pointed out further that MVIs are openly and through agents asking for bribes and if one goes individually, they harass the visitors, Mr Desai said that these are baseless allegations and there is no substance in it and added “name some persons to me or the MVI so that I can take necessary action against them.”
When Mr Desai’s attention was drawn to the issue of controversial video clipping showing MVI asking for bribe at a check post, the visibly upset, Mr Desai said that he is yet to see the videos.
“There is no complaint officially filed before me. If complaint is filed, I assure to take action deemed fit,’’ he added. [NT]
