No-confidence against Colva Sarpanch
Winds of political instability dogging the panchayats in Salcete’s countryside have been felt along the taluka’s coastal belt.
A no-confidence motion has been tabled against Colva Sarpanch Snowkon Gonsalves and his deputy Blanca. This is the first no-confidence motion tabled against a Sarpanch and deputy along Salcete’s coastal belt since last year’s panchayat polls.
Five members of the 9-member Colva panchayat body signed the no-trust motion against Snowkon and Blanca, accusing them for not taking the members into confidence while deciding on panchayat matters and for non-cooperation
The signatories include Agnelo Joaquim Pereira, Cajie Fernandes, Natalina Fernandes, Blaizy Fernandes and Menino Camilo Fernandes.
Salcete Block Development Officer, Uday Prabhudesai, confirmed that his office had received the notice of no-confidence motion on January 18. He said his office will soon call a meeting of Colva Panchayat to discuss and decide on the motion.
When contacted, Snowkon Gonsalves firmly denied the allegations leveled against him in the notice, terming them as false and baseless. “Most of the panchayat resolutions have been adopted unanimously by the body. This shows that the resolutions were taken after taking all members into confidence,” he added.
Replying to a question, Snowkon said he would face the no trust motion and clarify the charges leveled by the five signatories. [H]
