Now, book rail tickets at Mapusa post office
Passengers can now book rail tickets from the Mapusa post office. This facility-an initiative by the Indian Railways and India Post-was inaugurated on Monday in the presence of deputy chief minister and Mapusa MLA Francis D'Souza and North Goa MP ShripadNaik.
With the opening of the facility, the Mapusa post office will become the first post office in North Goa to have such a facility. In South Goa, the facility was commissioned at the Raia post office a month ago, while the facility will be available soon at the Cuncolim post office, sources said.
The cost of the tickets will include only the ticket fare and no commission will be charged to the customers. Only cash will be accepted at the post office counter. Mapusa post office has eight counters, and the first counter is reserved for the said facility.
"Passenger Reservation Systems (PRS) will ease the burden on railway counters and will enable local people to use the facility at their convenience" said S Shivram of India Post. While bookings at the railway station counter are accepted from 8am to 8pm, the post office facility will be available from 9am to 4pm.
"The facility will help North Goa people book tickets like tatkal. Under this facility, tickets can be booked prior to 120 days," said Sabaji Govekar, postmaster at the Mapusa post office. [TOI]
