Nuns mourn for their superior

The selfless service of a nun from the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Fatima came to a tragic end when she was killed in the bus mishap while on a trip to Mumbai to visit an ailing relative.
“Sister Martina Martis (62), who hailed from Vassai-Maharashtra, was the superior of Our Lady of Perpetual Old Age Home at Guirim for eight straight years and much of her service to society had been in Goa,” informed Sr Stevina.
“We received the news of the demise of Sr Martis from our provincial and our sisters from Chiplun rushed to the site of the mishap at Khed. After the autopsy, our sisters took possession of the body and shifted it to the Provincialite House in Andheri,” Sr Stevina said.
Describing Sr Martis as a gentle and kind person who was approachable, Sr Stevina said Sr Martis was a person full of prayer and would always reach out to the poor.
“She got along well with other sisters in the community. Her death is a terrible loss for us,” added Sr Stevina.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated in her native town of Vassai, while the funeral service will take place at Andheri.
Expressing shock over the untimely demise of Sr Martis, Guirim Parish Priest Fr Emidio Pinto said Sr Martis was liked by all inmates at the old aged home. [H]
