On-off, on-off, Tillari water flows into Goa yet again

Water from Tillari Canal, which was stopped due to repairs at Sateli-Maharashtra on February  5, as released to Goa on Friday night and the water reached Bicholim and Pernem on Saturday. Authorities in Maharashtra had stopped water from the Tillari canal following a breach in the canal and  the lack of water supply had severely affected farmers in Pernem and Bicholim talukas, as their crops  had withered away due to lack of water supply. Following the supply of water from the Tillari canal, about 120 MLD water was sent to the Assonora
Treatment Plant, which will be further supplied to Bardez and Bicholim talukas.  “During the last five days, the quantity of water released to Goa was very low and I was gradually  increased after monitoring the repair work, informed the Tillari Canal executive engineer Dhiraj Sale. The arrival of water from the Tillari canal has been welcomed by farmers from Sal, Kumyamal and  surrounding areas. “We are very happy to note that water will be released today,” said Sitaram Gawas, a farmer from  Warchawada-Dodamarg.  [H]
