One more arrested in truck driver assault case

The Ponda police on Tuesday arrested one more person in the Kundaim truck driver assault case. They said he was hiding in his village and they picked him up from his hideout.
Manoj Sawant, 36, a resident of Kundaim, along with three accomplices, had allegedly assaulted a truck driver for no apparent reason, while under the influence of alcohol.
Police have already arrested two of his partners-Deepak P Naik, 26, a resident of Allawada-Kundaim, and Maruti H Manjunnavar alias Pander, 34, a resident of Kundaim and a native of Halyal-Karnataka, on Monday. The fourth person, Girish Ganpat Naik, a resident of Kundaim, is still at large, police said.
According to the complaint lodged by Paras Upadhay, the group stopped their car in front of his tanker, abused him, pulled him out of the tanker and assaulted him with blows, slaps and kicks. They also damaged the front windshield of the tanker by hurling stones on it, deflated the tyres of the vehicle and tore his shirt, thus creating a loss of 12,000 to the driver.
Two accused, Pander and Sawant, were produced before the JMFC court in Ponda on Tuesday, where they were remanded to two-day police custody. Deepak Naik, who was arrested on Monday, is in police custody ordered by the JMFC court on Monday. Ponda ASI Rajaram Gaonkar is investigating. [TOI]
