One more held in Morjim firing case


Pernem police on Tuesday night arrested one more person in connection with a firing incident at a club in Morjim on New Year's eve. With this arrest, the number of persons held has risen to three.
Nichhay Palyekar, resident of Girwada, Mapusa, was arrested by the police and has been taken on the eight days remand. Palyekar was the third arrested person in this case.
Earlier, Sushant Bhomkar, 22, resident of Divar, was arrested by Pernem police in this connection on January 4 and was taken into eight days remand.
Later, Savio D'Souza, 33, resident of Ucassaim in Bardez, was found in possession of an unlicensed gun in Mapusa on January 4 by Mapusa police. He was later handed over to the Pernem police for his alleged links to the case.
Unidentified persons armed with wooden sticks and iron rods stormed into Club Fresh on Morjim beach during the New Year's eve party. Ravi Chawla, the club's manager, complained to Pernem police that 15 to 16 persons forcibly trespassed into his restaurant Club Fresh at Gawde wada, Morjim, damaged property and disrupted celebrations causing a loss of 4 lakh. Morjim village is facing a threat from lawless behavior of rival factions in the tourism business.  [TOI]
