Online fraud case: accused Nigerian travelled with fake passport

Panaji: Passport of one of the two accused Nigerian nationals who were arrested in online fraud is found to be fake. According to police the passport of Najiofor Chukwuma Collins is fake and it was revealed after the passport details were verified with the concerned agencies.The Goa cyber crime police had arrested Obina Icodemus and Najiofor Chukwuma Collins, both residing at Delhi and native of Nigeria for their alleged involved in an online fraud wherein a wife of an Army Colonel was reportedly cheated to the tune of Rs 8 lakh.
Police said that the accused are part of the international Nigerian racket who cheat people over the internet using social media sites. According to police the accused befriended the victim on the facebook and under the pretext of sending a gift, she was cheated to tune of Rs 8,04,300 police said. Police said that prior to this in order to gain trust of the victim, a Nigerian (name not known) national had hand delivered a gift box to the victim, however it is not know what the gift box contained.
There are a number of similar online frauds cases registered with the Goa police and this is one of the first breakthroughs. Police are probing involvement of the accused in more such cases.The accused were arrested in Delhi with the help of cyber crime cell of Delhi police. [NT]
