Opening of new Collectorate building postponed

It’s official. The government has decided against inaugurating the new District Collectorate on the eve of Republic Day as work on the imposing building remains incomplete in all respects.
Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar informed that the government would not act in a haste to shift the Collectorate in the new building on the eve of Republic Day.
Even as Principal Secretary, Perimal Rai inspected the new building on Tuesday morning, the Chief Minister admitted of a small delay in the inauguration of the Collectorate building on January 25. “We will not act in haste. If works remains incomplete, we will ensure that all works are completed in all respects before the new Collectorate is inaugurated,” Parrikar said.
District Collector, South N D Agrawal confirmed that inauguration of the new Collectorate building stands postponed. He said work on the building is not complete and efforts are on to complete the work at the earliest.
Sources in the Collectorate said that though the chamber of the district Collector is put in place, work on other sections and offices remains incomplete.
The Chief Minister during his visit to the city earlier this month had set January 25 as the deadline for inauguration of the new Collectorate building so that the Republic Day parade is held within its complex. [H]
