Orlim cries foul over high stamp duty

Orlim gram sabha on Sunday cried foul over the high stamp duty fixed for land in the village, even as the meeting objected to the transport department’s move to make helmets compulsory on village roads.
At the Sunday meeting, members called for review of the high stamp duty of Rs 3600 which they termed as much higher than villages along the coastal belt. A resolution was passed asking the panchayat to write to the government to review the high rate of land.
Members questioned the government’s decision to make helmets compulsory on village roads, and demanded improvement of the village grounds instead.
Issue of migrant staying in rented rooms in the village was also discussed with members demanding to keep strict check as there are reported increases in thefts in Goa.
The meeting resolved to hold a special gram sabha on March 10 to deliberate on the proposed budget, special status for state of Goa and Mopa. [H]
