Ornaments, cash stolen from two flats in Mapusa
Burglars targeted two flats near Mapusa Police station and decamped with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 27 lakh on Tuesday.
According to Mapusa Police, Laximan Govekar, who was residing on the third floor of the building at Garden Centre, had gone to Khorlim along with the family for Ganesh Chaturthi on Tuesday morning.
However, when they returned to the flat at about 11.45 pm, they were shocked to see the flat door opened and entire flat ransacked. They also found that all the five cupboards opened and cash of Rs 2 lakh, gold ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh and fixed deposit receipts of Rs 3.50 lakh stolen.
In yet another burglary in another flat at Chandrakant Apartment, adjacent to the Garden Centre, cash of Rs 25,000 and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.25 lakh were stolen.
Police informed that the flat owner, Deepak Mesta, had gone for work in the morning, while his family had gone to native place for Ganesh Chaturthi.
Police further informed that when Mesta returned home at about 8.30 pm, he found the door lock open and cash of Rs 25,000 and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.25 lakh stolen. He later lodged a complaint at Mapusa Police Station. [H]
