Ornaments, cash worth Rs 40 lakh stolen from two flats in Mapusa

In yet another incident that has caught  police  napping, Mapusa town today was rocked with two thefts worth Rs 40 lakh in a broad day light and both the places where the theft have occurred are just beside  the Mapusa police station and it is quite surprising that the culprits had this much daring to commit theft  just in the vicinity of the police station.

In the first case, unknown culprits entered the flat  T 2  on the third floor of Damodar Apartment at Ansabhat, belonging to one Ms Deepali Sawant Dhawaskar  just behind the Mapusa police station. The incident occurred between 12 and 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon when Ms Sawant  had locked her house and had gone to her shop. After she returned she noticed the theft.
The culprits entered the flat by breaking open the latch of the front door and later broke the locks of the cupboard and stole  gold and silver  ornaments worth Rs 36 lakh  and cash worth Rs 19,000.
Simultaneously,  during the same time and suspiciously  the same gang  or members of the same gang committed theft   in flat 204 B located on the second floor of Garden Centre Complex building right opposite the police station.
The culprits effected entry into the flat of Ms Lavita Madgaonkar in her absence by breaking open the front door and later the cupboards and stole away  ornaments worth Rs 4 lakhs and cash worth Rs 4000.
The accused also tried to also commit theft  in another adjacent flat  but could not succeed. Further investigations are in progress. [NT]
