Palyekar seeks Central assistance for Cutbona, Malim expansion

Panjim: Fisheries Minister Vinod Palyekar on Thursday wrote to the Union Fisheries Minister Radha Mohan Singh requesting the disbursement of Rs 25 crore towards expansion of Cutbona and Malim jetties under the Establishment of Fishing Harbour and Fish Landing Centres of the centrally sponsored scheme on Development of Marine Fisheries Infrastructure and Post Harbour Operation.In the letter to the union minister he pointed out that the Union of India approved the State proposal for expansion of four existing fish landing centres – Malim, Cutbona, Cortalim and Chapora – at an estimated cost of Rs 84.18 crore with 75 percent Central Financial Assistance. So far the Centre has sanctioned Rs 6.58 crore that has been utilised.
“It has been given to understand that the fund required for the project already sanctioned earlier need to be requested separately. Hence, it is kindly requested to disburse an amount of Rs 25 crore for financial year 2017-18 towards the two projects, ie Malim and Cutbona, as the work is in progress,” Palyekar said in his letter to the Union Minister.The Fisheries Minister said that work of execution of the project has been entrusted to Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd and that there is escalation of estimates from that prepared by West Bengal Fisheries Corporation Ltd, due to the better specification and inflation and hence the revised estimate has been increased from Rs 84.112 to Rs 142 crore.
