Parsekar for resource rooms in all schools

Resource rooms in all schools are the need of the hour, Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar stressing the importance of educating special children along with regular children in order to increase their confidence.
Speaking at the launch of a special audio and video disc to promote special education brought together by Jacinta Santamaria, a special educator, Parsekar said that it was important, that more and more schools start resource rooms in the state.
“In this small state like Goa, there are eight schools with resource rooms. it should be our endeavour that each school has a resource room,” Parsekar said, although he lamented that even in the Golden Jubilee year of Goa’s liberation, some schools did not have adequate infrastructure for regular students but that infrastructure for special children was more important.
He promised all help from the government side to the Nirmala Institute of Education, which conducts a BEd course for special educators, as well as to those who seek to start resource rooms in the state.
Earlier, Principal of Nirmala Institute of Education as well as Giselle Lobo who pioneered resource rooms in the state stressed the importance of having inclusive education, where in special children with physical or mental disabilities are allowed to study along with regular students.
Santamaria has taken the initiative to produce the songs despite having to battle severe illness in the form of typhoid over the last couple of years.
