Parsekar guides PWD into semis

Nilesh Parsekar’s blazing knock and superb wicket-keeping helped the Public Works Department beat the Directorate of Settlement & Land Records by 61 runs to reach the semi-finals of the Civil Services Cricket Tournament at SAG grounds, Campal.

Electing to bat first, PWD, opening with Nilesh Parsekar and Sameer Chodankar started briskly scoring 43 runs in the opening four overs, with Nilesh going great guns, hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes in his 41-ball 66.
Though, PWD lost 2 wickets in succession that of Sameer (4) and Umesh (6), they maintained a healthy run rate throughout the innings.
Late fireworks by Someshwar Naik Adpaikar 28 (19 balls) and Haresh Kakodkar 16 no (13 balls) helped PWD reach a comfortable 158/6 in the stipulated 18 overs. DSLR’s Patric was the pick of the bowlers picking 3-32, while Sandeep took 2-27 and Pramod 1-36.
Needing 159 to reach the semis DSLR, got off to a sedate start putting on 50 for the loss of just 1 wicket in 9 overs. However the dismissal of Hiroo 23 (26 balls) stumped splendidly by wicketkeeper Nilesh Parsekar off PWD skipper Umesh Naik and the pressure to cope up with the ever increasing run rate, needing 109 off the remaining 9 overs, DSLR batsmen faltered in their bid going for big hits and were bundled out for 97 in 16.4 overs, with only Sagar (11) and Sandeep (13) making notable contributions with the bat. Umesh Naik was the pick of the 9 bowlers used by PWD, returning figures of 3-14 and was ably supported by Viraj Patil 2-14, Ashvek Malgaonkar 1-16, Naresh Parsekar 1-8 and Haresh Kakodkar 1-6. Nilesh Parsekar was named man of the match.
PWD now face Directorate of Agriculture in the 1st semi-finals on March 23 at 9 am at SAG grounds, Campal. [NT]
