‘Passport sub-office in South Goa soon’

Sympathizing with the woes faced by locals from Salcete and South Goa district who have to travel all the way to the only passport office in Goa located at Panaji, chief minister ManoharParrikar said that there would be a passport sub-office in Margao.

Parrikar also said that an office will be set up in Margao for the administrative tribunal and that a judge had already been appointed for the same. South Goa cases will be transferred to this office after it is set up.

Parrikar was addressing a function organized by the commission for NRI affairs at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on Sunday for the seafarers community.

"Also, the deputy passport officer will be a Goan and the relevant paper work for the same has already been cleared," said Parrikar.

NRI commissioner Wilfred Mesquita had been apprised on this issue by various groups of South Goa residents on the need to have a passport office in Margao and had earlier publicly announced that he had taken up the matter with the Union ministry of external affairs repeatedly. [TOI]
